N’DJAMENA, Chad – Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, and the Société des Hydrocarbures du Tchad (SHT), Chad’s national oil corporation, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation in the energy sector. The signing ceremony, which took place today in N’Djamena, was overseen by Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Mining and Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, and Chad’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye.
The agreement was formalized during Minister Arkab’s participation, representing the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the International Exhibition of Mines, Quarries and Hydrocarbons ‘SIMICA Chad 2026’. The MOU was signed by the CEO of Sonatrach, Nordine Daoudi, and a representative of the Société des Hydrocarbures du Tchad.
The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration between the two entities, focusing on various aspects of the hydrocarbon industry. These include exploration, development, production, transportation, and valorization of hydrocarbon resources. The agreement also aims to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and knowledge, as well as promote training and human capacity building, all with the goal of supporting the development of Chad’s hydrocarbon sector.
Furthermore, the MOU outlines plans to explore future partnership opportunities and develop mutually beneficial projects. A key emphasis will be placed on technology transfer, the sharing of technical and organizational expertise, and leveraging Algeria’s extensive experience in managing and regulating the hydrocarbon sector.
Minister Arkab emphasized that the signing of the MOU aligns with the directives of the Algerian President to strengthen African cooperation, promote South-South partnerships, and support sister African nations in developing their strategic sectors, particularly in the fields of energy and hydrocarbons.
The Chadian Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology expressed her satisfaction with the level of cooperation with Algeria. She affirmed that the MOU represents a significant step towards benefiting from Algerian expertise and strengthening the capabilities of the Société des Hydrocarbures du Tchad, ultimately serving Chad’s economic and social development goals. This agreement marks a new chapter in energy cooperation between Algeria and Chad.
