Algeria and Chad have solidified their commitment to enhanced cooperation in the oil and gas sector with the signing of two significant agreements. The signing ceremony, overseen by Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Oil, and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and Chad’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye, took place on Thursday in N’Djamena, Chad. The event was held on the sidelines of the International Exhibition of Mines, Quarries, and Hydrocarbons “SIMICA Chad 2026,” which is taking place from January 21st to 23rd.
The ceremony was attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, the General Managers of Sonatrach and Naftal, as well as senior officials from both Algeria and Chad.
The first agreement, signed between the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) and the Chadian Ministry of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, establishes a sustainable framework for collaboration in training, capacity building, and human resource development. This agreement will enable Chadian technicians and executives to benefit from Algeria’s extensive expertise across all specializations within the hydrocarbon value chain.
The second agreement, also between IAP and the National Higher Institute of Petroleum in Chad, focuses on developing cooperation in the training of trainers, continuous professional development, student exchanges, and the sharing of expertise. Furthermore, it includes joint scientific research programs, the organization of scientific conferences, master’s programs, and research laboratories. The aim is to raise the scientific and technical qualifications of human resources in the Chadian oil and gas sector.
Minister Arkab emphasized that the signing of these agreements aligns with the directives of the President of Algeria to strengthen African cooperation and embody the principles of solidarity and knowledge sharing. He highlighted the Algerian Petroleum Institute’s leading role as an African center of excellence in training and knowledge transfer.
The Chadian Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology praised the importance of the agreements, considering them a cornerstone for developing national skills, strengthening training capabilities in the oil and gas sector, and leveraging Algeria’s pioneering experience to support Chad’s economic development efforts. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations. The agreements are expected to have a lasting impact on Chad’s oil and gas industry.
