Israeli Fire Kills Civilians in Gaza; Rafah Crossing to Reopen

Five Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, amid reports of extensive demolitions east of Khan Younis. Meanwhile, Palestinian officials announced the reopening of the Rafah crossing in the coming days.

Medical sources in Gaza confirmed that four Palestinians were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli artillery strike targeting civilians in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City. The victims were reportedly attempting to gather firewood for heating due to severe fuel and electricity shortages in the region. Earlier in the day, another Palestinian was killed by Israeli fire near Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis.

The ongoing restrictions on aid entering Gaza continue to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis. Tragically, a three-month-old infant, Ali Abu Zour, died from the extreme cold, according to medical officials. The infant was pronounced dead upon arrival at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. This latest death brings the total number of children who have died from the cold since the beginning of winter to eight, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Demolitions Continue

Reports indicate that Israeli forces are carrying out large-scale demolitions east of Khan Younis. These operations reportedly took place within areas under Israeli military control, accompanied by helicopter fire. Despite the ceasefire agreement, demolitions have continued in various areas across northern and southern Gaza.

Satellite imagery has revealed that the Israeli military has destroyed buildings outside the established truce line in Gaza City. The images also suggest that Israel is expanding its control over additional territory within Gaza. Reports indicate that fortifications have been constructed in areas close to the demarcation line, extending further into the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City.

Rafah Crossing to Reopen

In a separate development, Ali Shaath, head of the Palestinian National Committee for Gaza Administration, announced on Thursday that the Rafah crossing will reopen next week. Further details regarding the opening and operational procedures are expected to be released soon.
