Algiers – Recent severe weather, characterized by heavy snowfall and torrential rains, has led to the closure of several national and regional roads across multiple provinces in Algeria. The disruptions significantly impacted traffic flow over the weekend.
The National Gendarmerie, through its Traffic Information Center, reported that adverse weather conditions caused temporary traffic interruptions in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Djelfa, Blida, and Relizane. These closures were primarily due to snow accumulation and rising water levels on key routes.
In Tizi Ouzou, accumulated snow blocked National Road 33, a critical artery connecting Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, specifically in the Assoul area of the Ait Boumahdi municipality. Traffic was brought to a standstill as authorities worked to clear the roadway.
Djelfa province experienced flooding as the Oued El Mite River overflowed, leading to the closure of National Road 01A, which links Djelfa to Laghouat. The affected area was at the Oued El Mite bridge in the Hassi Bahbah municipality.
In Blida, Regional Road 110, connecting Blida and Tipaza, was submerged in water at the Ben Hamdani center in the Ben Khelil municipality. Authorities closed the road to ensure the safety of motorists.
Relizane province also saw disruptions, with the closure of Regional Road 52, linking Relizane and Mostaganem. This closure resulted from rising water levels in the Douar Es-Salhiyeh area of the Beni Zentis municipality.
The National Gendarmerie has stated that traffic is flowing normally on all other roads. However, they are urging motorists to exercise caution, stay informed about weather forecasts, and monitor traffic updates before traveling. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance.
