Mascara, Algeria – Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and National Planning, Said Saayoud, conducted a field visit to Mascara province on Thursday evening to assess the damage caused by recent severe weather conditions. The visit aimed to evaluate the impact on several municipalities and monitor the measures implemented to address the situation on the ground.
Undertaken on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this visit follows similar assessments in Chlef and Relizane provinces. The Minister was accompanied by the Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Issues, Souriya Mouloudji, as well as the Director-General of Civil Protection.
The ministerial delegation commenced their visit by launching a solidarity convoy intended for families affected by the adverse weather. The convoy included essential supplies, bedding, and blankets, in addition to specialized teams providing psychological and social support to ensure comprehensive assistance to impacted families.
Minister Saayoud also received a detailed presentation from local authorities outlining preventative actions and proactive measures taken to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall. These measures focused on securing the road network, protecting lives and property, and ensuring rapid intervention by relevant specialized services.
During his address, Mr. Saayoud commended the efforts made at the local level, emphasizing that proactive work and close coordination between various stakeholders represent the best strategic approach to confront severe weather and flooding. He stressed the importance of ensuring the continuity of public services in safe conditions.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation traveled to National Road 17, specifically the section connecting the municipalities of Hacine and Mohammadia. They inspected the damage recorded at Wadi Fergoug and reviewed the proposed technical solutions and operations to address this critical point and reduce future risks. The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting affected communities and implementing long-term solutions to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
