Algiers, January 24, 2026 – The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments is intensifying efforts to promote positive values and combat negative behaviors during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. Minister Youcef Belmahdi inaugurated a national conference for sector officials at Dar El Imam in Mohammadia, Algiers, on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of a unified and responsible religious discourse.
The conference, attended by senior officials from the central administration, affiliated institutions, and directors of religious affairs and endowments from across the country, focused on preparations for Ramadan and strengthening the spiritual life of the community. Minister Belmahdi stressed the need to promote the values of moderation and balance, drawing inspiration from the Quran and the spirit of the holy month.
Belmahdi described Ramadan as a “major spiritual opportunity for positive change in individual and societal behavior.” He called for the mobilization of Imams in mosques nationwide to intensify awareness campaigns aimed at promoting unity, tranquility, and brotherhood, while discouraging division and actions that could harm social cohesion.
The Minister also urged religious leaders to direct their discourse towards serving the public good and reinforcing ethical values in all aspects of life. He specifically highlighted the need to combat negative behaviors that may surface during Ramadan, such as hoarding, wastefulness, and extravagance, while emphasizing the importance of solidarity, mutual support, and gratitude.
Furthermore, Minister Belmahdi underscored the importance of continuing the digitization process within the religious sector, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He affirmed that digitization is a strategic choice to improve public service quality, enhance transparency, and streamline administrative and religious affairs, adapting to modern developments and serving citizens effectively.
This conference is part of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments’ ongoing efforts to support the community during Ramadan and consolidate the national religious reference, serving the interests of both religion and the nation.
