Education Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Islamic Education

Algiers – Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, has firmly addressed recent speculation regarding the status of Islamic Education within the Algerian curriculum. In a statement released today, the Minister unequivocally affirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to upholding Islamic Education as a core component of the national identity.

Minister Saadaoui’s remarks are intended to quell concerns raised by certain union elements and to reassure the public that no changes are planned for the subject. He emphasized that the Ministry of National Education serves as the guardian of Algeria’s national identity and has never considered any alteration to the curriculum of Islamic Education.

“The Algerian school system remains deeply committed to its fundamental principles and values,” the Minister stated, dismissing what he described as alarmist interpretations and unfounded rumors. He reiterated that the Ministry is dedicated to safeguarding educational programs and ensuring the stability of the educational process, free from any misleading claims that could create confusion among students and educators.

The Minister further stressed that the Ministry will not tolerate any attempts to politicize the educational curriculum. He underscored that Islamic Education, along with the Arabic and Amazigh languages, will continue to be the cornerstones of national identity and the cultural education of future generations of Algerians.

Educational expert Zouhair Belal lauded the Minister’s statement, highlighting its clarity and decisiveness in dispelling doubts. Belal emphasized the importance of the Ministry’s role in preserving Algeria’s cultural heritage through its educational policies.

With this declaration, Minister Saadaoui aims to put an end to the ambiguity and debate surrounding Islamic Education, reinforcing public trust in the Algerian school system and its deeply rooted principles. The Minister’s statement comes as the Ministry is launching a training program for journalists specializing in education, in coordination with the Ministry of Communication, showcasing the government’s commitment to transparency and accurate reporting on educational matters.
