National Police Issue Weather Alert for Drivers

The National Police Directorate is urging drivers and all road users to exercise extreme caution while traveling, as several regions across the nation are experiencing adverse weather conditions. The call for increased vigilance comes amid reports of heavy rain and strong winds in various parts of the country.

In a statement released on its official social media page, the Directorate emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, observing speed limits, and maintaining safe following distances. The Directorate strongly advises drivers to adjust their driving to the prevailing conditions and to be particularly mindful of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

“Maintaining a safe distance is crucial in these conditions, as braking distances are significantly increased due to wet and slippery roads,” the statement read. “Drivers should also ensure that their vehicles are in good working order, with properly functioning lights and windshield wipers.”

To ensure prompt response to emergencies, the National Police Directorate reminds citizens that the toll-free number 1548 and the emergency hotline 17 are available 24 hours a day to receive reports and inquiries. These services are designed to provide assistance and guidance to those in need.

The Directorate reiterated that these measures are part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and their property. The National Police calls on all road users to demonstrate responsibility and heightened awareness while driving, especially during this period of inclement weather. The public is encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and to plan their journeys accordingly.
