Despite being the subject of conversation for over 60 years, the exploitation projects of this immensely wealthy mine have remained unrealized. President Tebboune, firmly believing in Algeria’s potential as a mining power and emerging force, has taken the initiative to end the cycle of stillborn projects at Gara Djebilet, fulfilling the aspirations of the Tindouf citizens who see great promise in the mine’s exploitation.
The commencement of mining operations has become a reality. Additionally, President Tebboune, envisioning a future for Algeria stretching into the 2030s and 2040s, has decided to connect Tindouf with a railway line, responding to the decades-long demands of local residents for rail connectivity.
A Tindouf citizen, welcoming the President, expressed, “A train in Tindouf is a dream come true.” The signing of the agreement on November 30, 2023, marked Tindouf’s entry into global prominence, a historic moment paralleled by President Tebboune’s visit, the first-ever by a state president to this long-neglected province.
