National Council for Agricultural Mechanization Inaugurated

Algiers, January 25, 2026 – The National Council for Agricultural Mechanization was officially inaugurated yesterday evening by the Prime Minister, Seif Ghrib. This initiative follows directives issued by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and represents a significant step towards modernizing the agricultural sector.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the establishment of this council underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector’s production capabilities. A key focus will be ensuring the availability of modern agricultural equipment for farming operations across the country.

The council comprises representatives from various relevant sectors, including professional associations of farmers and local economic operators involved in the production of agricultural equipment. This diverse composition aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the sector’s needs and challenges.

The Prime Minister has instructed the council to develop a detailed action plan. This plan should include a comprehensive inventory of farmers’ equipment needs, taking into account the specific requirements of each agricultural sector. Particular attention will be paid to identifying priority needs for the upcoming 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 agricultural seasons to ensure their success.

Furthermore, the action plan must outline measures to strengthen and diversify local production of agricultural equipment to meet identified needs, adhering to relevant usage standards and considering the unique characteristics of each agricultural region.

The council will also address concerns related to enhancing national capabilities for maintaining agricultural equipment and ensuring the availability of spare parts. This will involve establishing and developing a national network for agricultural equipment maintenance, guaranteeing the efficient use of the national fleet of agricultural machinery.

The National Council for Agricultural Mechanization will hold regular meetings to evaluate the progress of the action plan and ensure that identified needs in the field of agricultural mechanization are addressed effectively and promptly. This is deemed a high priority for the government.
