National Autism Center Established in Algeria by Presidential Decree

Algiers – A presidential decree has been issued establishing the National Autism Center in Algeria. The decree outlines the center’s mission, organizational structure, and operational procedures, marking a significant step forward in the state’s commitment to individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

This decision follows directives from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening the health, educational, and social support provided to individuals with autism and improving the quality of services available to them and their families.

The center will operate under the supervision of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Issues. It will be responsible for key tasks, including the development of national programs and curricula specific to autism, particularly in the areas of diagnosis, early detection, rehabilitation, and treatment.

Furthermore, the center will design and implement a national training plan for specialized professionals and parents of individuals with autism. It will also monitor and evaluate the implementation of the National Autism Plan, which was approved by the President on June 1, 2025.

The National Autism Center will be based in Algiers, with plans for a gradual expansion to include a network of specialized centers across various provinces, beginning with four regional centers. This initiative aims to ensure effective national coverage and improve access to detection, care, and treatment services for individuals with autism.

The establishment of this center is expected to significantly enhance the system of care for autism spectrum disorder in Algeria, particularly in terms of national coordination and the standardization of scientific and training approaches. This will ultimately lead to improved quality of care for individuals with autism and their families.
