Israeli Officials Express Concerns Over US Envoy’s Iran Diplomacy

Jerusalem – Senior Israeli officials have voiced their unease regarding the diplomatic efforts of US envoy Steve Witkoff concerning Iran, DZWatch has learned. The concerns center around what some perceive as a premature push for de-escalation amid ongoing regional tensions.

According to sources within the Israeli government, there is a growing sense of uncertainty about the direction of US policy toward Iran. While acknowledging the possibility of a potential US military strike against Tehran, officials emphasized that the situation remains fluid and unpredictable.

Reports suggest that Witkoff has been actively engaged in back-channel communications with Iranian officials, seeking to establish a diplomatic pathway to resolve outstanding issues. These efforts have reportedly included conveying messages between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, aimed at averting potential military action.

“We are closely monitoring the situation,” one high-ranking Israeli source stated. “While we value diplomatic solutions, we also need to be realistic about the nature of the Iranian regime and its continued destabilizing activities in the region.”

Concerns have also been raised regarding alleged intelligence reports detailing the Iranian government’s crackdown on internal dissent, including reports of extrajudicial killings and suppression of protests. Some Israeli officials argue that these human rights concerns should be a primary consideration in any engagement with Tehran.

Meanwhile, discussions between Israeli and US military leaders, including Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper, have reportedly focused on coordinating defensive measures in the event of a US-led strike against Iran. These discussions are said to include potential responses to ballistic missile threats against Israel.

The heightened tensions come amidst a build-up of US military assets in the Persian Gulf, raising concerns about a potential escalation of the conflict. While Israel remains committed to its own security, officials are carefully weighing the implications of any potential military action in the region.
