Algeria-Spain Forum: From Trade Recovery to Investment

Algeria is preparing to host an Algerian-Spanish economic forum between April 12th and 16th, bringing together businesses from both countries for direct B2B meetings. The event is expected to translate the improved trade relations witnessed since late 2024 into tangible investment projects and partnerships, particularly in infrastructure, water, and energy sectors.

The forum is designed as a practical platform for business interaction, not just a ceremonial event. It aims to facilitate direct connections between Algerian and Spanish companies, focusing on high-value-added sectors. The theme, “International Expansion: Connect and Develop,” reflects Spain’s desire to reintegrate Algeria into its foreign expansion strategies following the easing of trade restrictions and the return of fluidity to bilateral trade.

From the Algerian perspective, the forum aligns with the country’s accelerated shift towards a new development model. The government is channeling significant investments into energy, infrastructure, water, and agriculture, alongside a push for energy transition. Public policies aim to achieve a 40% share of renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2030, enhancing Algeria’s attractiveness not only as a technology market but also as a potential partner in long-term projects.

The forum’s focus on specific sectors, including infrastructure, renewable energy, water, industrial machinery, construction, and food industries, reflects this strategic direction. These sectors align Algeria’s needs for expertise and technology with the Spanish companies’ search for geographically close, stable, and growing markets. The approach signifies a desire for long-term partnerships rather than short-term deals.

The Algerian government views this forum as critical step in attracting foreign direct investment and diversifying its economy. Success hinges on creating mutually beneficial partnerships that support Algeria’s development goals and provide Spanish companies with sustainable growth opportunities.
