Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, concluded a working visit to the Republic of Niger on Monday, January 26, 2026. The visit focused on monitoring the activities of Sonatrach and assessing the progress of its strategic energy projects within the country.
The trip was primarily aimed at reviewing the latest developments in Sonatrach’s exploration project in the Kafra North oil field in Niger. Minister Arkab and his delegation paid close attention to the technical aspects and the advancement of field operations, highlighting the commitment of both Algeria and Niger to the success of this crucial investment.
During the visit, Minister Arkab held meetings with Nigerien officials to discuss the progress of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project. Discussions also centered on strengthening coordination and consultation mechanisms among the various partners involved, with the goal of serving the interests of all participating nations and bolstering regional energy security.
The Algerian delegation included the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, and the General Manager of Sonatrach International (SIPEX), Mr. Bouarara Cherif, alongside other senior ministry officials. This high-level representation underscores Algeria’s commitment to developing its energy partnerships with neighboring African countries. This visit represents a key step in strengthening energy cooperation between Algeria and Niger. The successful completion of these projects is vital for regional stability and economic growth.
