Education Minister Meets Unions to Address Sector Concerns

Algiers, January 26, 2026 – Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, held a meeting today with representatives from various labor unions within the education sector. The gathering was described as a collaborative session focused on examining key issues and concerns impacting the industry.

In his opening remarks, Minister Saadaoui stated that following the enactment of the fundamental law governing employees in the sector, several observations and shortcomings were identified by the union organizations. Consequently, a national committee was formed to listen to and document these concerns.

“It was essential to convene a general session to finalize discussions related to the fundamental law,” the Minister emphasized, adding that “our objective remains to prioritize the overall interests of the sector through participatory dialogue.”

Minister Saadaoui reassured the social partners, stating, “If we achieve a significant level of consensus, we will adopt the revised draft of the fundamental law and submit it as soon as possible.” He further added, “We are committed to ensuring the comfort and stability of the sector and its employees by improving working conditions.”

The Minister also revealed that the concerns raised by the union organizations regarding procedural aspects of alignment with new provisions in labor law have been forwarded to the Ministry of Labor.

Minister Saadaoui stressed that “despite the observations recorded, which will be addressed, the fundamental law embodies the government’s implementation of the President of the Republic’s decision to improve the social and professional conditions of sector employees.”

He further emphasized that his ministry is committed to ensuring that “the fundamental law includes provisions that realize the utmost possible standards, reflecting the attention that the President of the Republic gives to educators.”The discussions are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
