Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met with the Minister of Petroleum of the Republic of Niger, Mahamadou Tini, at the Ministry of Petroleum headquarters in Niamey on Monday. The meeting was held in the presence of the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, the General Manager of Sonatrach International (SIPEX), Bouarara Cherif, as well as ministry officials, and representatives of the Algerian embassy in Niamey.
Discussions centered on the latest developments regarding Sonatrach’s activities in Niger, particularly the progress of the research and exploration project in the Kafra oil field in northern Niger. The talks were later expanded to include members of both delegations, including officials from the Nigerien Ministry of Petroleum and the National Nigerien Petroleum Company (SONIDEP).
During the meeting, Minister Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness, through Sonatrach and its subsidiaries, to resume previously agreed-upon activities related to the research and exploration project in the Kafra oil field. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in the energy sector for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the progress of the strategic Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project and examine its various aspects. The officials reviewed the implementation status of decisions made during previous meetings involving the ministers of hydrocarbons from Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria. The TSGP is a crucial project aimed at bolstering energy security and promoting economic development across the region.
This high-level meeting underscores the strong and growing partnership between Algeria and Niger in the energy sector. Both countries are committed to strengthening their cooperation and ensuring the successful implementation of key energy projects that will contribute to regional prosperity.
