Algiers, Algeria – Several Algerian provinces are bracing for strong winds and sandstorms today, according to a weather alert issued by the national meteorological services. The alert, categorized as Level 1 (Yellow), indicates a significant risk of sandstorms in numerous wilayas.
The provinces most likely to be affected by these sandstorms include: Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Chlef, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, Relizane, Naama, El Bayadh, Tiaret, Saida, Laghouat, Ghardaia, Illizi, Ouargla, El Oued, Touggourt, El M’Ghair, Biskra, Ouled Djellal, M’Sila, Djelfa, Bouira, Medea, Blida, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf.
In a separate special weather bulletin, the National Office of Meteorology (ONM) warned of westerly to northwesterly winds, with speeds ranging from 70 to 80 kilometers per hour. These conditions are expected to persist until this evening and will primarily impact the following wilayas: Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Tipaza, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf.
Furthermore, the ONM has issued another warning concerning westerly to southwesterly winds, with speeds between 60 and 70 kilometers per hour. This weather pattern is anticipated to continue until dawn on Tuesday, affecting the provinces of Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, and Chlef.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.
