Algeria Eyes Streamlined Import Process Through Digitalization

The Higher Council for Import Regulation convened Monday to assess the performance of the import sector in 2025 and outline projections for 2026. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib, signals a renewed commitment to simplifying and digitizing import procedures to achieve a more balanced trade dynamic for Algeria.

Discussions centered on evaluating the import of goods and services throughout 2025, alongside forecasting trends for the upcoming year. A key focus was placed on developing a more effective framework for import regulation, designed to address the concerns of economic operators while simultaneously meeting the genuine needs of the national economy.

Streamlining and Digitalization at the Forefront

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to exploring measures to simplify administrative processes related to import operations. Emphasis was placed on accelerating the pace of digitalization and strengthening inter-ministerial coordination to facilitate smoother and more efficient processing and monitoring of import files.

Supporting Domestic Production

Participants underscored that the primary objective of import regulation extends beyond merely controlling expenditure. The council affirmed its commitment to leveraging import policies to bolster domestic production, encourage investment, and foster a more competitive economic environment. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to the sustainable growth of the Algerian economy.

The council aims to create a more efficient and transparent import system that supports national economic objectives.
