Weather Alert: Strong Winds Expected Across 41 Algerian Provinces

DZWatch Exclusive: A nationwide weather alert has been issued, forecasting strong winds across 41 provinces in Algeria. The advisory, categorized as Level 2 (Orange), warns of potentially hazardous conditions lasting until Thursday.

The winds, originating from the west to southwest, are expected to reach sustained speeds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour, with gusts occasionally exceeding 90 to 100 kilometers per hour. Coastal areas could experience even stronger gusts, potentially reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour on Wednesday. The most intense activity is anticipated in coastal provinces and mountainous regions.

The western provinces of Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Mascara, Relizane, Naama, and El Bayadh will feel the initial impact starting Tuesday at 3:00 PM, with the alert remaining in effect until at least Thursday at 12:00 PM.

Northern and major coastal provinces, including Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Ain Defla, Medea, Blida, and Bouira, should prepare for gusts reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour on Wednesday between 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM. This heightened alert will be in place from Tuesday at 9:00 PM until Thursday at 12:00 PM.

Eastern and inland provinces such as Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Setif, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Batna, Oum El Bouaghi, Khenchela, Tebessa, and Biskra can expect winds between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour, with potential gusts exceeding 100 kilometers per hour. The strongest activity is forecast for Wednesday from 7:00 PM to Thursday at 1:00 AM, particularly in coastal areas and the Aures region.

Finally, the southern interior provinces of M’Sila, Laghouat, Ouled Djellal, and Djelfa will experience winds ranging from 60 to 80 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially surpassing 90 kilometers per hour. This alert will also be in effect from Tuesday at 3:00 PM until at least Thursday at 12:00 PM.
