Niger has commended Algeria’s commitment to the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, recognizing its pivotal role in regional development and energy security. The praise was delivered during a meeting between Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, and Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab.
Minister Arkab conveyed fraternal greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing Algeria’s dedication to strengthening ties between the two nations across various sectors. President Tiani reciprocated the sentiments, tasking Minister Arkab with conveying his appreciation to President Tebboune and reaffirming Niger’s commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation and supporting African collaboration.
President Tiani underscored the historical bonds of friendship between Niger and Algeria, rooted in trust, solidarity, and mutual support. He lauded Algeria’s expertise in the oil and gas industry, expressing Niger’s desire to leverage Algeria’s experience, particularly through Sonatrach’s exploration project in the Kafra region.
The President further highlighted the significance of the TSGP, acknowledging Algeria’s efforts in realizing the project. He emphasized its potential to drive socio-economic development in transit countries and enhance regional energy security. The TSGP is envisioned as a crucial infrastructure project that will transport natural gas from Nigeria, through Niger, to Algeria, and ultimately to Europe.
The meeting underscores the strengthening partnership between Algeria and Niger, particularly in the energy sector. The TSGP project remains a key focus for both nations, promising significant economic and strategic benefits.
