Algiers, Algeria – The General Directorate of Civil Defense issued an urgent warning today, following a weather alert from the National Meteorological Office, regarding strong winds expected to impact coastal and inland regions of the country. The wind speeds are predicted to range between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour, with potential gusts reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour in certain areas.
The Civil Defense is urging the public to take preventative measures to avoid domestic accidents and traffic incidents resulting from these weather conditions. Recommended precautions include securing sensitive furniture, utilizing alternative non-electrical lighting sources, reinforcing windows and glass, and staying away from balconies, trees, and electrical poles.
Furthermore, citizens are advised to park vehicles, secure animals, and store important equipment in garages. For road users, the Civil Defense recommends reducing speed to ensure clear visibility and avoiding proximity to coastal areas, especially rocky shores, lakes, and water reservoirs.
The directorate also emphasized the importance of securing cranes on construction sites to prevent them from collapsing due to the strong winds. Staying informed about weather forecasts and road conditions is crucial, as is avoiding forested areas during travel, to ensure the safety of everyone during this period of exceptional weather.
The Civil Defense implores all residents to heed these warnings and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property during this period of heightened weather risk. The safety and well-being of the public are of utmost importance.
