Tindouf – The first shipment of iron ore extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine is scheduled to arrive at processing plants in the province of Oran this Thursday, marking the official commencement of operations at the long-awaited mine.
The arrival of this initial shipment signifies a crucial step in Algeria’s efforts to develop its iron and steel industry. The processing of the raw material extracted from Gara Djebilet into finished products will significantly bolster the national production chain, reducing the country’s reliance on imports and creating new opportunities for economic growth.
The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, made the announcement Tuesday evening during a visit to Gara Djebilet. He emphasized the strategic importance of the mine for the future of Algeria’s industrial sector. He stated that the project represents a major investment in the country’s natural resources and will contribute significantly to job creation in the region.
“This is a pivotal moment for Algeria,” said Minister Saayoud. “The Gara Djebilet mine is a national asset that will drive economic diversification and create a more resilient industrial base.”
The Gara Djebilet mine is one of the largest iron ore deposits in the world, and its exploitation is expected to have a transformative impact on the Algerian economy. The project has faced numerous challenges over the years, but the government’s commitment to its development has remained steadfast. The successful commencement of operations represents a major achievement for Algeria and a significant step towards realizing its industrial ambitions.
The mine’s output is expected to feed various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and infrastructure development. The project also includes plans for the development of associated infrastructure, such as roads, railways, and power plants, which will further contribute to the region’s economic development.
