In an official statement on Saturday, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youssef Sharifah, affirmed that all necessary factors are in place to achieve the ambitious goal of increasing the areas designated for grain production to 3 million hectares. This comes particularly after the state ensured the availability of seeds and fertilizers. Minister of Agriculture

During a working meeting with sector executives and agricultural department directors, Sharifah urged them to shoulder their responsibilities and engage in fieldwork to realize the objective of expanding the areas allocated for the production of hard and soft wheat, as well as barley, to 3 million hectares—a goal emphasized by President Abdelmajid Tebboune.

Despite the delayed plowing and sowing campaign this year, Minister Sharifah asserted that the target of reaching 3 million hectares “will not be compromised.” He issued directives to rectify the delay in the plowing and sowing campaign within 30 days.

In this context, Sharifah commended the “historic decisions” made by President Tebboune in favor of the agriculture sector since 2020. This includes support mechanisms and facilities for farmers and breeders, as well as incentives for investors. He emphasized that these measures addressed major concerns faced by farmers.

The speaker highlighted the importance of “adjusting” certain goals, work methodologies, and deadlines in each file within his ministry. He called for intensified efforts to accelerate the pace of implementation and ensure meticulous field monitoring, especially in supporting farmers throughout the production process.
