Algerian Political Roundup: National Security Praises and High-Level Diplomatic Engagements

In a series of significant political and diplomatic developments in late January 2026, Algeria has reinforced its national security posture and expanded its international outreach. The El Bina National Movement issued a statement on Friday, January 30, praising the “security epic” led by the People’s National Army (ANP). The movement lauded the military’s high level of professionalism and readiness in safeguarding the nation’s borders.

On the domestic political front, Mondher Boden, Secretary General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), affirmed the state’s determination to replicate the industrial success of the Gara Djebilet mining project in other sectors. Meanwhile, the “Majority Coalition” convened at the headquarters of the Al-Moustakbal Front to coordinate legislative priorities, and the RND announced new initiatives to establish direct communication channels with the Algerian diaspora in France.

The Presidency also saw a flurry of diplomatic activity. The President of the Republic received several high-profile figures, including Massad Boulos and former French minister Ségolène Royal. Simultaneously, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held discussions with a senior advisor to the U.S. President and met with the Tunisian President at Carthage Palace. These regional efforts culminated in the “Tunis Declaration,” which explicitly rejects international guardianship over Libya, emphasizing a preference for sovereign, locally-led solutions.
