Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nemour was crowned the best Algerian athlete of 2025 as part of the traditional “Brahim Dahmani” poll conducted by the Algeria Press Service (APS). The ceremony took place on Tuesday evening at the El Aurassi Hotel in Algiers, attended by political and sports figures to honor the winning athletes.
Nemour received the award from the Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi, and the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the General Directorate of Communication, Kamel Sidi Said.
Following the poll, which included all national media outlets, Kaylia Nemour received 27 out of 28 votes from the participating media organizations. One vote went to Vovinam Viet Vo Dao athlete Melissa Guendouzi, who won the gold medal in the combat category (-60 kg) at the World Championships in Indonesia.
With this selection, Kaylia Nemour retained her title as the best Algerian athlete for the second consecutive year.
Nemour took first place following competition with several prominent female athletes, such as karateka Louiza Abouriche, who won a bronze medal at the Individual World Championships in Cairo; kickboxer Dania Ouhachi, winner of two gold medals at the World Cup in Tashkent; wrestlers Fatima Zahra Ouajawout and Alicia Arrouri, silver medalists at the Vovinam Viet Vo Dao World Championships in Thailand; and karateka Cylia Ouikene, who placed fourth at the World Games in China.
Throughout 2025, Kaylia Nemour maintained a remarkable presence on the global gymnastics stage through a series of high-level performances and distinguished results. She secured numerous titles on prestigious podiums, confirming her consistency at the top and her great talent, while solidifying her position among the world’s gymnastics elite and honoring the national colors in various international forums.
