Opel has announced the selection of Algeria as a new production site outside the European continent, as part of expanding its industrial presence in the Middle East and Africa.
The company’s CEO, Florian Huettl, confirmed on his LinkedIn page that this step represents a significant milestone in Opel’s international expansion path and reinforces its commitment to sustainable growth and long-term investment in promising markets.
Huettl noted that Algeria has been a focus of particular interest over the past two years, where growing partnerships have resulted in the decision to establish a production unit dedicated to meeting local market needs and supporting the company’s European manufacturing network.
He explained that Opel management held a working session in Algeria with the Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East and Africa, during which they discussed the development of the new site and the integration of additional Opel models into the national industrial ecosystem.
This decision reflects the strategic direction of the Stellantis Group toward enhancing local production, supporting industrial integration, and encouraging sustainable investment to serve the interests of customers, partners, and the Algerian industry.
Opel also reaffirmed its commitment to providing world-renowned German engineering quality, manufactured locally in Algeria, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s position as a regional industrial hub in the automotive sector.
