Important discussions between Arkab and his Arab counterparts

In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, engaged in discussions with his counterparts during the 12th edition of the Arab Energy Conference in Doha. Simultaneously, the 11th meeting of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) was in progress.

The official statement from the Ministry of Energy highlights the thorough review of the cooperative ties between Algeria and its counterparts, especially concerning energy resources. The discussions encompassed potential collaborations and investments in the gas industry. They explored partnership possibilities between Sonatrach, Qatar Gas, and other foreign companies for joint projects across the entire gas value chain. Additionally, both parties explored the prospect of collaboration in Algeria’s mining sector, focusing on research, exploitation, and mineral production.

Moreover, the discussions included preparations for the upcoming 7th Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), scheduled to be held in Algeria. The continuous cooperation and consultations between the two nations within the GECF framework were acknowledged.

Minister Arkab also engaged in talks with his Libyan counterpart, Mohamed Ahmed Oun, discussing partnership and investment opportunities in various aspects of energy and electricity. Special emphasis was placed on Sonatrach’s resumption of activities in Libya and the expansion of these activities in petroleum services and training. The discussions also covered enhancing cooperation between the Libyan Electricity Company and Sonelgaz, praising the quality of relations between the two countries’ energy sectors.

The Arab Energy Conference provided an opportunity for Minister Arkab to discuss global gas market conditions with the Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Mohamed Hamel. They delved into the short, medium, and long-term prospects of the gas market, also addressing preparations for the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the GECF, scheduled for March 2024 in Algeria.

Minister Arkab reiterated the importance of making the Gas Exporting Countries Forum a real source of proposals, expertise, and consultation in the gas industry. He stressed the necessity of dialogue between gas producers and consumer countries to ensure reliable and cost-effective energy supplies worldwide.

Further discussions took place between Minister Arkab and his Lebanese counterpart, Walid Fayyad, reviewing the state of cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Opportunities for collaboration in the fields of energy and mining, especially in hydrocarbons and petroleum products, were explored.

The minister concluded his meetings with counterparts by engaging with the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources of the Syrian Arab Republic, Firas Hassan Qadour. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in energy and mining, particularly in hydrocarbons. The talks also covered opportunities for collaboration and investment between companies from both countries across the entire value chain in the petroleum sector.

Notably, the discussions witnessed the presence of CEOs of Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, along with officials from the Ministry.
