Oran Ranks Seventh Among the Best Tourist Destinations in the World

The city of Oran has secured seventh place in The New York Times’ annual list of the 52 best tourist destinations in the world for 2026. In its ranking, the American daily noted: “As Algeria establishes its position as a tourist destination, Oran, the coastal city overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, is witnessing a cultural renaissance that blends its rich past with a vibrant new energy.”

The newspaper highlighted the city’s assets, noting that it “is situated on plains and hills overlooking breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and is rich in palaces and forts, including the Oran Regional Theater. This architectural masterpiece, dating back a century, was recently restored and now offers a program of contemporary performances.”

This ranking places Oran ahead of several European capitals, embodying Algeria’s image as “historical and forward-looking.” This success also reflects the country’s tourism recovery, marked by a significant increase in the number of visitors in recent years.
