Algeria participates in the meeting to activate the African Energy Bank in Abuja

Miloud Medjelled, Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, representing Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, participated in a meeting regarding the activation of the African Energy Bank in Abuja, Nigeria, according to a ministry statement.

The Secretary General was accompanied by a delegation that included Algeria’s representative to the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), as well as officials from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines and the Sonatrach group.

This participation took place on the sidelines of the ninth edition of the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2026), held from February 2 to 5.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on practical mechanisms to accelerate the activation of the African Energy Bank and enhance its role in financing energy projects across the continent, contributing to sustainable development and regional cooperation in this strategic sector.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation visited the new headquarters of the African Energy Bank, where they viewed its facilities and the organizational structures that will host the bank’s activities in the coming phase.

According to the ministry, this participation underscores Algeria’s commitment to supporting African initiatives aimed at strengthening energy integration, promoting investment, and developing innovative financing solutions for the sustainable development of the African continent.
