Prime Minister Sifi Gharib emphasized that the approach of considering the national community abroad as an integral part of the nation reflects the importance President Abdelmadjid Tebboune attaches to the diaspora, placing their concerns at the heart of his priorities.
Speaking at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the official opening of the conference for heads of consular centers, the Prime Minister stated that the challenge facing the consular network is to continuously strive to meet the strong will expressed by the President on several occasions, including during the conference of heads of diplomatic and consular missions in November 2021, where he emphasized the strategic dimension of the national community abroad.
Sifi Gharib noted that the recent appeal made by the President to Algerian youth abroad in vulnerable and irregular situations is further evidence of this constant commitment to protecting Algerian citizens. This includes the decision to regularize their status, a move that requires consular heads to exercise the necessary diligence in monitoring its implementation, in line with the high priority given by the country’s authorities to the principle of protecting citizens of all categories, under all circumstances, and wherever they may be.
He also affirmed that the government is keen to grant the national community abroad, across its various groups and generations, the position it deserves within various public policies, consistent with its deep connection to the motherland and in an effort to respond continuously to its various aspirations and concerns.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister reiterated the state’s full commitment to providing optimal care for the national community residing abroad, protecting them, and listening to their concerns. Achieving this goal requires continued support for the role of the diplomatic and consular network in developing its working methods to fulfill the tasks entrusted to it toward this important segment of Algerian society.
He added that the role of consular centers should not be limited to providing administrative services, despite their importance, but must also encompass other equally significant issues arising from current realities, such as the escalation of Islamophobia, racial discrimination, and identity-related challenges.
