The Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, received Natasha van Rijn, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Algeria, on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor, this meeting comes within the framework of implementing the Algerian state’s policy aimed at promoting labor and employment and strengthening the social protection system.
The two parties discussed ways to strengthen existing cooperation with the UNDP to serve national objectives in the fields of social development and the social and solidarity economy, as well as improving professional integration mechanisms.
During the talks, the Minister outlined the sector’s strategy, which is based on national priorities and public policies. He noted that any international cooperation within this framework aims to support national efforts and accompany programs led by Algeria, ensuring their alignment with sustainable development requirements.
In this context, the Minister highlighted that the social and solidarity economy model adopted by the Algerian state is a strategic choice stemming from the specificities of Algerian society. He added that it is a natural extension of the national social security system, which is based on the principles of social justice, solidarity, and intergenerational support, and which the state works to develop and enhance.
For her part, the UNDP Resident Representative expressed her appreciation for the policies pursued by Algeria in the field of social development. She confirmed the program’s readiness to continue accompanying the ministry’s efforts and providing the necessary technical support, while respecting the Algerian state’s choices and development priorities.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of continued consultation and coordination to strengthen cooperation within the goals set by the Algerian state, contributing to the support of employment and the promotion of social development at the national level.
