Prime Minister Saifi Gharib chaired a government meeting on Wednesday dedicated to studying several key issues. During the session, the government heard a presentation on the 2026-2030 hydrocarbon development plan, which serves as a primary strategic framework for the sector’s growth and sustainable support for the national economy. This plan reflects the directives of the country’s highest authorities, particularly in the fields of refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers, and seawater desalination, as well as measures taken to improve hydrocarbon valuation, enhance national energy security, and strengthen the country’s industrial capabilities.
The government also reviewed a presentation regarding African Development Bank funding for the project to construct the Laghouat-Ghardaia-El Menia railway line. This project, which is of national importance, is part of the modernization plan to connect and establish a railway network in line with major high-return projects.
During the same session, the government examined the status of equipment projects registered in the state budget to eliminate unfeasible operations. This measure aims to direct state efforts toward completing ongoing programs with proven economic and social benefits.
Additionally, the government heard a presentation on a new sheep feed called “Sheep Dates,” an innovative product derived from the optimal use of date waste. This patented product was developed by the Scientific and Technical Research Center for Arid Areas in Biskra and is part of an initiative to promote applied scientific research in the agricultural sector. This feed, designed for fattening sheep, is expected to provide alternatives to imported fodder corn.
In the context of monitoring water-scarce areas and providing drinking water, particularly in the south of the country, the government heard a presentation on the launch of two projects for water desalination and mineral removal plants in Tamanrasset and Tindouf, as approved by the President of the Republic.
Finally, the government was briefed on the progress of the import and distribution of public transport buses. This initiative is part of the implementation of the President’s program to import 10,000 new buses to renew the national passenger transport fleet.
