Algeria’s Head of Foreign Affairs Committee, Rabah Bouthelja, welcomed Norway’s Ambassador to Algeria, Therese Løken Gezil, on Tuesday. The meeting delved into the current state of bilateral relations and avenues for collaboration in parliamentary affairs and various sectors.

The discussions highlighted the robust economic partnership, especially in the energy sector, with the recent memorandum of understanding signed between Sonatrach and the Norwegian company Equinor.

Bouthelja engaged in dialogue with the Norwegian diplomat about the incentives provided by Algeria’s investment law for foreign businesses. He emphasized the importance of fostering reciprocal partnerships to inject new dynamics into bilateral cooperation and capitalize on the available potential for promising prospects.

In the context of international recognition, Bouthelja commended Norway for supporting Algeria’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.

Ambassador Gezil expressed appreciation for the strong ties between the two nations, emphasizing shared principles in international law. She condemned the blatant human rights violations in Gaza, particularly highlighting the Security Council’s failure to issue a ceasefire resolution.

In a significant note, Gezil expressed Norway’s willingness to share its experiences with Algeria across various domains. She particularly emphasized collaboration on projects related to advanced technology for seawater desalination.
