Prime Minister Receives Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund

Prime Minister Sifi Gharib received today, Thursday, at the Government Palace, Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who is currently on a visit to Algeria.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed various aspects of cooperation between Algeria and the IMF, as well as scheduled activities in the fields of finance, statistics, digitalization, and the rationalization of public spending, in addition to policies supporting economic development and the diversification of the national economy.

In this context, the Managing Director of the IMF praised the existing cooperation relations with Algeria, highlighting their importance in the shared pursuit of supporting development and building bridges of cooperation in the region. This is exemplified by the high-level seminar organized in collaboration between the Bank of Algeria and the IMF, titled “North Africa: Connecting Continents and Creating Opportunities.”

Georgieva also noted the relevance of the public policies and economic reforms led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing that Algeria was among the first countries to achieve a rapid economic recovery from the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. She added that the country continues to achieve significant economic performance through various projects, particularly in the field of infrastructure.

For his part, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Managing Director of the IMF for the importance her institution attaches to cooperation with Algeria. He praised the quality of the relations with this international financial institution and expressed readiness to continue bilateral coordination to optimize cooperation opportunities and move forward with the implementation of various scheduled activities.

The Prime Minister also addressed the various economic reforms initiated by Algeria under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which have improved the investment climate and supported the goals of diversifying the national economy. He emphasized Algeria’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, such as the Western Railway line recently inaugurated by the President, and supporting regional integration through national projects with an integrative dimension and structural regional projects aimed at enhancing economic dynamics across the entire region.

In conclusion, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint work to explore ways to face current economic challenges and strengthen the foundations of stability and sustainable development at both regional and international levels.
