The Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amal Abdellatif, accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kaouthar Krikou, and the Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Issues, Soraya Mouloudji, oversaw the launch of an awareness campaign for rationalizing consumption at the Central Post Office square in Algiers.
In her speech on the occasion, Minister Amal Abdellatif stated that the campaign comes in anticipation of the holy month of Ramadan, a period that typically witnesses changes in consumer behavior and an increase in demand for widely consumed goods.
The Minister added, “We have launched a wide national awareness campaign to rationalize consumption and limit waste, especially since the month of Ramadan unfortunately sees a significant increase in the waste of bread and other food items. This is a call for everyone to adopt responsible consumption behavior that reflects the values of moderation and solidarity of the holy month.”
This initiative is held under the slogans “Abundance exists… rationalizing consumption is your choice” and “Ramadan is a holy month, do not make it a race in waste,” the Minister of Internal Trade added.
Regarding field preparations to ensure supply and bring services closer to citizens, the Minister revealed the launch of 560 local markets across 69 provinces starting February 9, 2026. These markets will offer various products at reasonable and discounted prices to alleviate pressure on markets and enable citizens to purchase their needs comfortably.
The Minister also confirmed that instructions were issued to the MAGRO company to ensure the continuity of wholesale fruit and vegetable markets starting this week, allowing for continuous supply during weekends and avoiding any market disruptions.
