Algeria Pays Special Attention to the Preservation and Teaching of the Holy Quran

The Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, presided on Saturday over the final scientific seminar of the community activity organized for the 21st edition of the Algeria International Award for the Holy Quran Memorization and Recitation. The event, titled “With the Holy Quran… A Life Experience,” was held at Dar El Imam in Mohammadia, Algiers.

In his speech, Belmehdi explained that this seminar is part of the conclusion of the community program accompanying the international competition, organized under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He noted that the event reflects the importance Algeria places on the preservation, teaching, and arbitration of the Holy Quran.

The Minister confirmed that the community activities accompanying the competition spanned several provinces across the country and were supervised by international judges. This provided an opportunity for the general public, as well as members of recitation bodies and national judging committees, to benefit from leading scientific and field experiences in the service of the Holy Book.

He also highlighted that more than 50 countries participated in this edition. The preliminary rounds, conducted via video conferencing, resulted in representatives from 20 countries qualifying to participate in person in the finals starting next Monday. The closing ceremony will be held at the Great Mosque of Algiers, coinciding with the 27th night of the month of Rajab, the night of Isra and Mi’raj.

Belmehdi added that reaching the 21st edition of the competition is the culmination of nearly two decades of service to the Holy Quran by training memorizers, qualifying judges, and strengthening Algeria’s participation in international Quranic forums, reflecting the state’s care for the Quran and its carriers.

According to a ministry statement, the scientific seminar featured presentations by members of the international jury, including Sheikh Mohammed Fahd Kharouf from the Syrian Arab Republic, Sheikh Taher bin Zahir bin Masoud bin Said Al-Azwani from the Sultanate of Oman, and Sheikh Bouchiba Bakhda from Algeria. They shared their experiences in Quranic memorization, mastery of its rules, and judging in international Quranic competitions.
