The Secretary-General of the High Commission for Amazighity, Si El Hachemi Assad, supervised on Monday the inauguration of the first phase of the restoration of the ancient palace in the municipality of Igli, Beni Abbes province.
The inauguration ceremony took place as part of the national and official celebrations for the Amazigh New Year “Yennayer 2976.” This first phase included the restoration of the palace’s main entrance to its original state. The palace is listed in the additional inventory of tangible cultural heritage for the province of Beni Abbes.
The official explained that the initiative, launched by the High Commission for Amazighity in partnership with the Algerian Center for Earthen Cultural Heritage, is part of the commission’s contribution to preserving the region’s tangible heritage. It will be followed by future operations covering other parts of the palace, including the ancient mosque.
Beni Abbes is one of the Saoura regions whose tangible and intangible cultural heritage, such as the rock carvings of Marhouma, is receiving increasing attention from the culture and arts sector to ensure its preservation and sustainability, the official added.
