Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, praised the distinguished presidency of the Republic of South Africa for the G20 during the second day of the 48th session of the African Union Executive Council.
In his speech regarding the G20 report, Attaf expressed Algeria’s appreciation for the role played by South Africa in leading its activities, emphasizing Algeria’s solidarity with the country amid the challenges faced in this context.
Attaf also emphasized that the Johannesburg Summit will remain a pivotal milestone in the collective memory of the African continent, as it was the first G20 summit held under an African presidency and on African soil.
Attaf further considered the summit’s outcomes to be a significant gain for the African continent, which should be utilized and built upon within the framework of the African Union’s permanent membership in the G20.
He added, “My country’s delegation supports the measures previously approved to share representation tasks between the Commission and the rotating presidency, and suggests drawing inspiration from the Oran Process experience to unify the African voice within the G20 as well.”
