The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and National Planning announced the launch of a new service that enables citizens born abroad who are currently in Algeria to submit requests for the registration and correction of their civil status documents directly at the municipal level.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, this new service is the result of joint cooperation between the foreign affairs and interior sectors, particularly in the field of data exchange and information linking. It aims to add value to the quality of services provided to the target group for extracting, registering, or correcting these documents, sparing them the trouble of traveling to the civil status department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In its first phase, this service is available at the municipalities of Algiers Province, as well as the main municipalities of the remaining provinces across the country. It will be expanded in a later stage to all remaining municipalities distributed throughout the national territory.
The statement added that this process is part of implementing the instructions of the country’s high authorities regarding the strengthening of efforts to digitalize and modernize public facilities, simplify administrative services for citizens residing inside and outside the country, and bring the administration closer to the citizen.
