The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, conducted a surprise inspection visit to the Port of Algiers, where he reviewed the general status of the port, container conditions, and unloading and processing operations. According to a ministry statement, Sayoud inspected port development efforts aimed at ensuring a suitable working environment, issuing several instructions regarding the acceleration of work and the processing of ships and goods.
Following his previous visit to Pier 08 and the issuance of instructions to begin a geotechnical study, the Minister gave direct orders to start the implementation of works, emphasizing the necessity of accelerating the pace of completion in anticipation of the upcoming summer season. Sayoud also stressed that containers exceeding the legal stay limit must be removed from the port by customs brokers through legal procedures in coordination with the relevant authorities, while also accelerating ship processing and unloading to ensure efficient and organized operations.
The Minister ordered the completion of the comprehensive port development plan and the preparation of the new promenade area, highlighting the need to enhance rail transport to ensure operational efficiency. He also noted the progress recorded across all national ports, including a decrease in the number of ships at anchor, calling for intensified coordination efforts and increased operational readiness.
