The Makhzen turns a blind eye to major scandals involving Emiratis who use the Kingdom’s cities to vent their inhibitions, sharing explicit videos with thousands of viewers from the heart of Moroccan cities. However, when it comes to a twenty-year-old Algerian, they found no shame in imprisoning him during a continental event marked by scandalous practices.
Social media activist and comedian Raouf Belkacemi, a supporter of the Algerian national team, was targeted not just on the field but in the stands. Before the TikToker incident, a siege was imposed on supporters by creating a ticket crisis, where tickets were available to non-Algerian fans.
From this point, FAF President Walid Sadi intervened, viewing the protection of the “12th man” as part of protecting the national team. He personally intervened to release the young supporter Raouf Belkacemi before he was re-detained for flimsy reasons and justifications that confirm the weakness of the justice system and its political motivations. This is part of a plan targeting Algeria and its team, which began early with rumors and manufactured crises, from the “King’s photo” incident to the “ball theft” and other non-innocent crises aimed solely at disrupting the national team.
Raouf’s humorous video ended with him in Moroccan prisons, in a move that does not confirm an “extended hand” for peace but rather an act of ill-will against Algerians that must be stopped.
Questions arise regarding the Makhzen’s thinking before committing this disgraceful act, through which it attempts to test the waters. It knows that Algeria, which does not accept being pressured, will not allow its children across the five continents to be harmed. The Makhzen must return to its senses before it is too late.
