Niger President’s Visit Ends ‘Abnormal Phase’ of Cold Relations

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated that the visit of the President of Niger to Algeria has ended an abnormal phase of coldness in relations between the two countries, noting that the two brotherly peoples had continued to communicate during that time.

In a joint media statement with the President of the Republic of Niger, Abdourahamane Tiani, President Tebboune emphasized that the visit has raised the level of brotherhood and friendship between the two nations as neighbors, brothers, and friends.

President Tebboune revealed that an agreement was reached to strengthen cooperation in various fields, most notably security, energy (including hydrocarbons and electricity), university and vocational training, and military training.

He added: “We agreed to launch the project for the trans-Saharan gas pipeline through Nigerien territory. Immediately after the month of Ramadan, practical procedures will begin to start laying the pipeline on Nigerien soil.”

The President also confirmed Algeria’s readiness to support Niger with all necessary resources, stating that Algeria would not withhold any available capabilities.

Furthermore, it was agreed to proceed with details for projects involving the health sector, the construction of secondary schools, the establishment of a kidney dialysis unit, and the creation of a press house in the capital, Niamey, for the benefit of the Nigerien media community.

Regarding the fight against terrorism, the President stressed: “We are in the same trench, and we will cooperate with maximum effort using all the capabilities and expertise available to Algeria in this field.”

He concluded by saying: “We will preserve the affection that has united us for generations, and the peoples of Algeria and Niger will remain brotherly neighbors joined by strong bonds of brotherhood.”
