The National Company for the Management and Operation of Land Transport Stations (Sogral) has announced an intensification of its daily travel schedule and the adaptation of working hours to meet the increasing demand for land transport during the month of Ramadan. In a statement released on Monday, the company revealed a special program that includes 2,170 additional trips this week, anticipating the surge in demand for passenger transport ahead of the holy month.
The statement explained that this measure follows instructions from the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, aimed at providing transport means and adapting trip schedules to meet citizens’ needs during this period. In this context, Sogral, in coordination with provincial transport directorates and public and private transport companies, has strengthened the travel program across various provinces.
This includes adjusting the timings of 1,050 daily trips, shifting them to evening and night periods to avoid departures coinciding with Iftar, given the high demand during these times. The institution has also deployed additional workers by adapting working hours according to the modified schedule to ensure the continuity of services at stations, particularly regarding cleaning, security, and ticket counter staff.
Furthermore, merchants operating within the stations have been contacted to ensure the provision of essential services before and after Iftar. Prayer areas have also been opened and equipped to operate 24 hours a day across various land stations. The CEO of Sogral, Fares Tzerart, emphasized the necessity of expanding the use of digital mechanisms to facilitate ticket purchases and electronic payments, urging passengers to rely on digital services to avoid queues at ticket windows.
The official also ordered station managers to intensify coordination with road safety authorities to organize awareness campaigns on preventing traffic accidents, with the participation of the National Gendarmerie, National Security, and specialized associations. Additionally, Sogral announced the organization of 33 Iftar tables across several land stations in coordination with civil society organizations, local authorities, and the Algerian Red Crescent, alongside the organization of neighborhood markets and commercial exhibitions within station spaces.
These spaces will also be used to organize blood donation campaigns in coordination with health services, and to support medical teams in awareness campaigns for individuals with chronic diseases regarding fasting during Ramadan.
