Minister of Environment oversees opening of awareness day on rationalizing consumption

On Tuesday, the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kaouter Krikou, oversaw the opening of an awareness day at the Great Mosque of Algiers focused on rationalizing consumption, reducing waste, and encouraging recycling, held under the slogan “Ramadan: Moderation and Sustainability for Generations.”

According to a ministry statement, this initiative was organized in coordination with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments and in cooperation with the Rectorate of the Great Mosque of Algiers, as part of efforts to promote positive behaviors based on moderation and the reduction of various forms of waste.

The awareness day included a detailed presentation on the sustainable environmental systems integrated into the design of the Great Mosque of Algiers. The Minister reviewed various modern environmental equipment and techniques adopted by the religious landmark, particularly the rainwater recovery system and the proactive disaster management system.

In the same context, interactive awareness workshops on rationalizing consumption and reducing waste were organized for students and children. These sessions, supervised by institutions under the Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life, provided practical explanations and guidance on ways to reduce food waste and the importance of selective waste sorting and its role in supporting the recycling system.

An interactive workshop was also dedicated to environmental associations, focusing on the recycling and recovery of food leftovers, while raising awareness about rational consumption methods.

The event concluded with an awareness session organized by the Great Mosque of Algiers for children and participants, aimed at instilling values of moderation and environmental responsibility in rising generations.
