New Artery Transforms Algeria into a Global Hub for Phosphate Exports

The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, chaired marathon work sessions on Sunday evening at the ministry’s headquarters. These sessions were dedicated to evaluating the progress of the Eastern Mining Line, one of the most important arteries of the national economy, connecting Annaba to Bled El Hadba in Tebessa.

During his review of the progress over a distance of 422 km, the minister emphasized that this project, which is part of the Integrated Phosphate Project, is of extreme strategic importance to the state. Djellaoui ordered the national and foreign companies in charge of construction to accelerate the pace and mobilize all human and material resources to meet contractual deadlines, stressing that any procrastination would be unacceptable given the current economic stakes.

The second session focused specifically on the Bouchegouf – Souk Ahras – Dréan section, which extends over 121 km, where the minister conducted a precise analysis of the field progress rates. He issued firm instructions on the need for close coordination with local authorities to resolve all technical and field obstacles facing the construction sites, which was met with a full commitment from the construction companies to respect the specified timelines.

The Eastern Mining Line is considered the cornerstone for transforming Algeria into a global hub for phosphate production and export, as it will allow for the efficient transport of massive quantities of raw materials to export ports. Minister Djellaoui’s periodic field follow-up confirms the government’s keenness to deliver this mining landmark on schedule, serving as a locomotive for development in the provinces of eastern Algeria.
