Asian Fertilizer Giant Arrives in Algeria

Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, received Sudaryono, the Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the company “PT PUPUK INDONESIA,” in the presence of agency officials.

During the meeting, the procedures for localizing the company’s project in Algeria were discussed, as part of the agency’s strategy aimed at opening up to foreign direct investment and supporting projects with high added value.

The Indonesian company is one of the most prominent industrial groups in Asia, active in the production of fertilizers and pesticides with an annual rate of nearly 22 million tons, and has a proven track record in achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural crops such as rice and corn in Indonesia.

This meeting comes in the context of strengthening economic cooperation with Indonesia, which is ranked among the 20 strongest global economies and is the largest in the ASEAN group in terms of GDP, adding strategic importance to attracting its investments to Algeria.

The company’s project in Algeria aims to produce fertilizers from phosphate, nitrogen, urea, and ammonia, based on the successful experience the company achieved in its home country, contributing to supporting the national agricultural sector and enhancing food security.

This meeting is the culmination of the fruitful relations that began when the agency first received representatives of the company in 2024, continuing efforts aimed at promoting foreign direct investment in Algeria.
