Return of the Tripartite Meeting Between Government, Trade Union, and Employers

The Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), Amar Takdjout, revealed an upcoming “tripartite meeting” scheduled for the coming days, bringing together members of the government, the trade union center, and employers’ organizations. Takdjout explained that the meeting will involve discussions on numerous files, most notably the strengthening of social dialogue and the formulation of a comprehensive approach to employment and economic development based on partnership and integration.

The official indicated that the first session will serve as a preliminary meeting to establish a work agenda. This includes determining the formal nature of the meetings and deciding whether they will be permanent and periodic or organized on an ad hoc basis as needed or according to the issues at hand.

Takdjout added that the meeting will address several files related to the labor market, economic recovery, and everything associated with the rights and duties of workers. He emphasized that he would demand that employers from both the public and private sectors comply with judicial decisions and rulings issued in favor of workers.

The Secretary-General expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the failure to implement these rulings, stating that the issue has become a heavy burden and could be one of the primary reasons for his departure from the leadership of the trade union center if necessary. He stressed that in his position as the primary representative of workers, he feels “unable” to enable these workers to obtain their rights. He noted that while his role is to ensure workers’ problems and concerns reach decision-makers and officials, the actual implementation of judicial decisions lies beyond his authority.
