Thirty-one people died and 1,438 others were injured in 1,213 road accidents across several provinces between February 15 and 21, according to a statement from the General Directorate of Civil Protection on Tuesday.
The same source explained that the heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Ain Defla, where seven people died and 28 others were injured in 26 road accidents.
Furthermore, Civil Protection units carried out 910 interventions to extinguish 554 fires, including residential, industrial, and various other fires. The highest numbers were recorded in the provinces of Algiers (72 fires), Blida (32), and Annaba (28).
During the same period, the services conducted 5,969 various operations to rescue 451 people in danger and covered 5,215 ambulance operations.
Regarding accidents related to carbon monoxide poisoning from heating systems and water heaters, Civil Protection services performed 23 interventions during the same period, providing first aid to 53 people and recording one death in the province of Souk Ahras.
