Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline at the Center of Talks Between Arkab and His Nigerien Counterpart

Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held talks on Monday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Petroleum in Niamey, the capital of the Republic of Niger, with the Nigerien Minister of Petroleum, Hammad Tini.

The meeting was attended by the CEO of Sonatrach, Nourredine Daoudi, the Director General of Sonatrach International Holding, Bouarara Cherif, and officials from the ministry, alongside the Chargé d’Affaires and representatives of the diplomatic corps at the Algerian embassy in Niamey.

The discussions, which later expanded to include members of both delegations, such as officials from the Nigerien Ministry of Petroleum and the Nigerien National Oil Company (SONIDEP), focused on the latest developments regarding Sonatrach’s activities in Niger. This specifically concerned the follow-up on the exploration and search project at the Kafra oil field in northern Niger.

In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Minister of State reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness, particularly through the Sonatrach Group and its subsidiaries, to resume previously agreed-upon activities related to the exploration and search project at the Kafra oil field.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the progress of the strategic Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project. The two sides reviewed various aspects of the project and the implementation status of decisions made during previous meetings between the ministers responsible for energy from Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria.
