Prime Minister Seifi Gharib chaired a joint ministerial meeting dedicated to evaluating the readiness of the proactive action plan established to contain the spread of locusts in several southwestern provinces.
According to the Prime Minister’s office, this meeting, which included the participation of the concerned governors via video conference, was held in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The meeting is part of the continuous assessment of the risks of desert locust spread and its development in the region, in accordance with updates from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the utilization of national satellite capabilities.
The presentations highlighted the readiness of the field action plans prepared for this purpose, which proved effective last year, while increasing the readiness of vigilance and monitoring systems in the southern border provinces that constitute the front line of confrontation, and strengthening land and air intervention means, particularly those belonging to the Ministry of National Defense.
